Responsibility

I think the toughest thing for many people to understand and accept is that the solutions for a lot of their physical ailments are long-term lifestyle changes. It took you years to get where you are now, and you will not get somewhere else without actively and consistently trying to go somewhere else. You do not always need to know where the next step is but you do not make any progress if you do not have some idea of where you are.

Small efforts add up but you need to be aware of just how much you may be up against. There is no stretch or remedy that can cure you if performed inconsistently or improperly or with poor effort. If such a remedy happens to be what you need, it will take time to learn and apply and ingrain. You dug yourself a hole by not being aware of certain circumstances; you stay stuck in that hole if you do not face them and change them and pull yourself out. Mountains are climbable but it takes thousands of conscious and consistent steps.

Is it helping? Is it working? Maybe. But it is hard to tell if it is working if—or because—you are not working. Are you doing what you need to do and in the way you need to do it? No? Well then it does not matter what you say or what else is going on. Yes? Are you sure? Why are you sure? Tell me. Tell yourself. Look in the mirror. Be honest. Doing what you did got you where you are. Continuing doing what you did and do and in the same ways will not take you where you want to go.

Face yourself. It is up to you. Helpers can provide shovels and ropes but you are responsible for you and only you can get yourself out of the hole and up the mountain.
